The K League United Podcast

Sep 2, 2020

Ryan Walters is joined by Matthew Binns and Peter Hampshire to discuss the first Double Dragon Derby between Ki Sung-yueng's FC Seoul and Lee Chung-yong's Ulsan Hyundai. While it was a rather straightforward win for the league leaders on the pitch, the off-field effect of so many national team stars on Korean shores will be felt for a while. The madness that was Gwangju FC's 6-4 victory over Daegu FC closes the first segment. They discuss how the Yellows pulled off the massive win, what's gone wrong at Daegu, and what the result means for the league table.

On the note of massive results, they shift focus to Gangwon beating Jeonbuk for the second time this season and give their takeaways on the loss that opened up a bigger lead for Ulsan atop the table. While discussing Jeonbuk, Ryan and Peter (kinda) attempt to console a teary-eyed Matthew as he gives his eulogy on Kim Jin-su with the defender set to take the field for Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr.

Because it isn't a KLU Pod without a little K2, the third segment starts with the growing gap between Jeju, Suwon, and the rest of the second division. Most notably, Daejeon have fallen into the playoff pool and are very close to dropping even farther. As if summoned by the mention of Daejeon, Paul Neat makes an appearance in the first of his new segment, Korean Football Roundup, where Paul gives a brief overview of the going ons for Korean footballers across the globe.

Lastly, the Eulji Lewis Mailbag sees the hosts answer questions about everything from K League becoming a selling league to José Morais' abilities as a manager, and a whole lot in between. All that and more in this edition of the K League United Podcast.
